Position Description

Base pay is influenced by several factors including a candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and anticipated contributions to meet the needs of the business, along with internal pay equity and external market driven rates. The salary range displayed has not been adjusted for geographical location. The Actuarial Analyst assists in the determination of rates and analyzes, develops, and validates statistical data. This is an entry-level actuarial position. Typically holds a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science and has less than two years experience. Must be currently pursuing the designation of ASA (Associate) in the Society of Actuaries with the completion of up to three exams.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Pricing Support: Provide support to senior level staff and management with regard to rate filings.
  • Continue building a knowledge base for how rate filings are developed and submitted.
  • Forecasting Support: Provide support to senior level staff and management with regard to completing the company forecast. Continue to gain a knowledge of the forecast process and what the results reflect.
  • Reserve Support: Provide support to senior level staff and management with regard to completing the monthly reserve valuation process. Continue to learn the key elements of the reserve process and be able to logically understand their functions. Gain an ability to modify and impact analytics and process.
  • Data Analytics: Build on knowledge of data sources and how to gather data needed for the three core actuarial functions. Continue to develop an understanding of reports produced for management and their intended function.
  • Actuarial Exams: Participate in the Actuarial Student Program and take exams pursuant of actuarial credentials (ASA and/or FSA)

Skills:

  • Analytical thinking skills. Mathematical skills.
  • Handle moderately complex issues or problems.
  • Possess and apply fundamental knowledge of actuarial principles, concepts, practices and processes within a specific discipline.

Knowledge:

  • Statistical knowledge, detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year experience

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics
  • 1-3 Actuarial Exams

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see.
  • The employee must be able to work over 40 hours per week. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
