The Health Promotion & Wellness Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality health and wellness services to current and potential members, employer groups, and the community. Services include presentations, health exhibits, multi-session programs, biometric screenings, and individualized health coaching delivered at the Capital Blue Cross Connect Health and Wellness Center, employer group worksites, community locations, and through virtual platforms. This position promotes community health and wellness by serving as a trusted representative of Capital Blue Cross and supporting health education initiatives across a variety of settings. The Health Promotion & Wellness Specialist evaluates existing programs, identifies gaps in services, and develops innovative wellness programming as part of the Health Promotion and Wellness team. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities or direct reports; however, this individual provides feedback to Health Promotion and Wellness leadership regarding health education trends, program effectiveness, service enhancements, and opportunities for new programs and services.

• Operational Activities: Delivers health coaching, health education services, and multi-session programs. Assists in the development of programs and services that address emerging topics in health promotion and wellness under the guidance of Health Promotion and Wellness leadership. Supports members through individualized health coaching on topics such as healthy eating, weight management, goal setting, and other wellness-related areas. Delivers health education through exhibits, presentations, and other engagement opportunities in a professional and timely manner. Performs biometric screenings for members and the community using equipment such as Cholestech analyzers and body composition assessment devices.
• Supports organizational marketing and outreach efforts by assisting in the development and preparation of materials for health promotion and wellness initiatives. Collaborates with internal departments to promote awareness and utilization of health promotion and wellness services. Refers members to appropriate Capital programs, services, tools, and resources to support health improvement, close gaps in care, and encourage engagement in wellness initiatives.
• Quality/Program Delivery: Reviews health promotion and wellness programs, educational materials, and related resources to ensure content accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness for target audiences. Provides customer feedback to Health Promotion and Wellness leadership regarding the effectiveness of health education and wellness programs and services. Contributes suggestions for enhancing departmental processes and operations. Utilizes effective workload management practices to complete assignments within established timelines and support service delivery goals.
• Evaluation & Reporting: Manages data and compiles reports on health promotion and wellness programs, health coaching services, and related activities delivered across Connect Health and Wellness Centers, employer group worksites, community locations, and virtual platforms. Documents health education and wellness activities in designated databases and systems in accordance with established policies and procedures. Prepares and delivers activity reports to Health Promotion and Wellness leadership. Monitors program outcomes and data quality to support evaluation efforts and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Unit & Administrative: Assists with ordering and maintaining supplies necessary to support health coaching, biometric screening, and wellness service delivery. Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to PA DOH lab licensure and CLIA waivers, in accordance with CMS and DOH regulations.
• Documents member interactions and health coaching activities accurately and within established timelines. Adheres to Health Promotion and Wellness policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
• Assists in orientation and ongoing development of peers by serving as a resource for departmental processes, programs, services, and documentation requirements.
• Maintains a professional, customer-focused approach in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders. Actively participates in departmental, cross-functional, and organizational meetings to support communication, collaboration, and coordination of ongoing initiatives.
• Carries out responsibilities accurately and within established timelines, in accordance with corporate, departmental, and regulatory policies and procedures.

• Ability to travel throughout the Capital Blue Cross service area to support health promotion and wellness initiatives.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of health education, health promotion, wellness coaching, behavior change theories, and preventive health practices, typically acquired through a bachelor's degree in health education, public health, nutrition, exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, along with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in health promotion, wellness coaching, population health, biometric screening, behavior change, and consumer health engagement.
• Knowledge of behavior modification strategies, motivational interviewing techniques, and evidence-based interventions designed to support healthy lifestyle changes and encourage participation in health and wellness programs.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles, group facilitation techniques, and methods for effectively delivering health education and wellness programming to diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of methods and technologies used to deliver health education, health coaching, and wellness services through in-person and virtual formats.
• Knowledge of data collection, documentation, and reporting practices used to evaluate health promotion and wellness programs and services.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and make decisions within established policies, procedures, and professional standards.

Experience:

• Typically requires 1-3 years of experience in health education, health promotion, wellness coaching, public health, nutrition, exercise science, or a related field.
• Experience developing and delivering health education, health coaching, and wellness programs for individuals and groups across diverse settings.
• Experience facilitating educational content, supporting behavior change through coaching and goal setting, and delivering wellness interventions in both in-person and virtual environments.
• Experience documenting member interactions, program activities, and health coaching services in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and member management systems.
• Experience conducting biometric screenings and interpreting screening results, preferred.

Education and Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, or a related health field from an accredited college or university required.
• Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), or other relevant health and wellness certification preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certifications necessary to support biometric screening activities.
• Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and credentials applicable to job responsibilities.
• Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
• You may be responsible for the care, supervision, guidance, or control of children or otherwise have routine interaction with children. Therefore, in accordance with Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law, you must undergo and obtain clearances through comprehensive and regularly updated criminal and child abuse background checks. Capital Blue Cross will assist you in obtaining these clearances.

Location:

• This position requires working onsite in the Capital Blue Cross Connect Center located in Saucon Valley, PA.  This position also requires travel to local community events and the occasional flexibility to work remotely.
